SAN LUIS OBSIPO, Calif.- The Cal Poly Women's Soccer team kicked off conference play at home against Pacific and won in dominating style 4-1. The Mustangs improve to 1-0 in the Big West Conference and 4-5-1 on the season.
The Mustangs were the first on the board when freshman Elise Krieghoff scored from the left side off an assist by senior Cici Kobinski in the 20th minute. Cal Poly would score again less than ten minutes later in the 29th minute when junior, Andrea Zimkowski kicked a cross and sophomore Sara Epps was able to find the back of the goal.
In the 34th minute of the match, Pacific was able to get on the board when Kortney Agdeppa got a goal from in front of the net off an assist from Maricela Padilla.
The second half of the game continued to be a physical match and a player from each team received a yellow card. For Pacific, it was Zarette Munoz-Aguilar and for Cal Poly, it was Shandon Rovetta.
Cal Poly notched their third goal of the game in the 54th minute when sophomore Sara Epps scored her second goal of the season with senior Haley Walker getting her first assist. But just moments later in the 56th minute, Elise Krieghoff would score her second goal of the night with Cici Kibinski receiving another assist.
Kreighoff has now tallied five goals on the season. In tonight's game against Pacific she took 9 shots, three on goal and two goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti recorded three saves on the night.
Cal Poly next faces UC Davis at home on Sunday at noon.
