Cal Poly Falls to Arizona State 32-7 in Final Dual Meet of Season
TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State won the first eight bouts, one by fall and another via forfeit, and defeated Cal Poly 32-7 in a Pac-12 dual wrestling meet Friday night inside Wells Fargo Arena.
Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs averted a shutout with wins by Tom Lane and Samuel Aguilar in the final two bouts.
Lane led all the way with a takedown in the first period, an escape and takedown in the second period and an escape, takedown and riding time in the final period for a 9-2 win over Austyn Harris at 197 pounds.
Lane is 18-10 for the season and 7-2 in dual meets.
Aguilar (pictured above) closed out the dual meet with a 10-0 major decision over Brady Gilliland-Daniel at 285.
Aguilar earned one takedown, two- and four-point near falls, a penalty point and riding time for his second major of the year, closing out a 9-14 regular season.
At 157, Mustang Brawley Lamer dropped a tough 5-4 decision to 13th-ranked Christian Pagdilao.
Lamer led 3-2 after the first period with an escape and takedown, but surrendered an escape and takedown in the second period to trail 5-3. Lamer tallied an escape in the final period but nothing else as he fell to 12-13 for the year.
Arizona State improved to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in Pac-12 dual meets while Cal Poly fell to 0-9 and 0-4.
Cal Poly returns to Arizona State for the Pac-12 Championships on March 9.
