Despite Several Close Matches, Cal Poly Falls to Stanford, 32-5

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Stanford won nine of the 10 bouts, including two major decisions and a forfeit, en route to a 32-5 victory over Cal Poly in a Pac-12 Conference dual meet Sunday afternoon.

Cal Poly's lone victory came via injury default. Mustang 184-pounder Willem DeBoer was declared the winner when Stanford's Colbey Harlan was unable to continue following an injury.

Six of the bouts were decided by two points or less, all going the way of the Cardinal.

At 197, 12th-ranked Nathan Traxler of Stanford was a 5-4 winner over No. 17 Tom Lane. Trailing 4-0 after two periods, Lane secured a takedown, a penalty point and riding time, but Traxler's escape in the final period proved to be the difference.

Brawley Lamer (pictured above) dropped a 4-3 decision at 157 while Benny Martinez (125), Yoshito Funakoshi (133), Wyatt Cornelison (141) and Seville Hayes (285) all lost by two points.

Jared Hill (165) and Rico Stormer (174) both won by major decision for Stanford.
