Lane Returns to Rankings at No. 18 by Amateur Wrestling News

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly 197-pound wrestler Tom Lane has moved back into the national rankings this week.

Ranked No. 14 in trackwrestling.com's preseason poll, Lane went 1-2 in the Black Knight Invitational at Army West Point and split four matches in the Las Vegas Invitational, dropping out of the polls.

Lane, however, has won seven of his last eight bouts, and has vaulted back into the Top 25 with a No. 18 ranking by Amateur Wrestling News at 197 pounds.

An NCAA qualifier a year ago, Lane upset then-No. 15 Jacob Seely with a 12-2 major decision last Friday night in Cal Poly's dual meet with Northern Colorado.

The win, Lane's team-leading seventh major decision of the season, improved the Garden City, New York, native to a 15-8 record for the year. The junior has one fall and one technical fall to his credit so far.

Seely fell to No. 19 with the loss to Lane.

Cal Poly has added a tournament to its schedule this year and will compete in the California Collegiate Open on Saturday at San Francisco State.

The Mustangs have three more home dual meets on the calendar, hosting Oregon State on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m., Fresno State on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. and Air Force on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. The dual with the Bulldogs will be held in the Recreation Center.
