Bergland, Gillaspy Lead Cal Poly in Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Sophie Bergland and Desiree Gillaspy are in the top 20 after two rounds of play in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational hosted by San Jose State on Monday at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.

Bergland is tied for 12th place with rounds of 73 and 76 for a five-over-par 149 total on the 6,190-yard, par-72 course. Gillaspy (pictured at right) carded rounds of 77 and 73 for a 150 aggregate and a tie for 14th place on a warm day with temperatures in the low 90s.

Coach Sofi Aagaard's Mustangs are in 11th place in a competitive 11-team field with rounds of 303 and 311 for a 614 total. Brigham Young leads at 590, followed by San Jose State and Colorado, both with 592 totals.

My Leander of San Jose State and Kendra Dalton of Brigham Young share the second-round lead with three-under-par 141 totals, two shots ahead of both Ciera Min of Gonzaga and Ellen Secor of Colorado State.

In addition to Bergland and Gillaspy, Cal Poly's other scoring golfers include Jamie Binns with a 75 and 82 for 157 and 45th place, Mallory Muehlbauer with a 78 and 83 for 161 and 52nd place, and Jamie Harada with an 83 and 80 for 163 and 56th place.
