Trio of Mustangs in Top 40 at Bruin-Wave Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Three golfers from Cal Poly's Swanson Golf Program are in the top 40 after two rounds of play in the Bruin Wave Invitational co-hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

Jamie Harada is in 35th place while Lucy Robson and Desiree Gillaspy are tied for 40th place with four other golfers after 36 holes of play.

Final round is set for Tuesday morning and admission is free. The tournament features 16 teams, including seven ranked in the top 20 by Golfstat.com.

UCLA's Lilia Vu has a one-stroke lead entering the final round after posting a 69 and 72 for a three-under-par 141 total. Three golfers share second place at 142 — Sophia Zeeb of Arizona State, Ingrid Gutierrez of New Mexico and Bronte Law of UCLA.

UCLA sits atop the team standings with an even-par four-person 36-hole 576 total, 10 strokes ahead of Arizona State. San Diego State is third with a 589 aggregate.

Cal Poly is just one shot out of the top 10 with rounds of 311 and 307 for a 618 total. CSUN is 10th at 617.

Harada (pictured above) carded rounds of 76 and 77 for a 153 total while Gillaspy checked in with a 75 and 80 for a 155 total. Robson also is at 155 with an 83 and 72.

Also scoring for Cal Poly were Madison Hirsch with a pair of 78s for a 156 total and 46th place, and Jamie Binns with a pair of 82s for a 164 total and 79th place.

Competing as an individual, Sophie Bergland is tied for 70th place with a 160 total after recording 80s in each round.

Harada is fifth in par-5 scoring after 36 holes of play with a four-under-par 4.50 average. Robson is tied for ninth place with her six birdies.
