Bruin-Wave Invitational to be Held at San Luis Obispo Country Club

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Several of the top women's golf programs from the West Region as well as Oklahoma State will compete in the Bruin-Wave Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

UCLA, ranked No. 6 by Golfstat.com, along with No. 9 Washington, No. 11 Stanford, No. 14 Cal, No. 15 Arizona State and No. 20 San Diego State will join the 13th-ranked Cowboys in the two-day, 54-hole event.

Cal Poly also will enter a team. Coached by Sofie Aagaard, the Mustangs placed second in the Lady Mustang Invitational in October at Cypress Ridge and own three other top-five finishes this season.

A total of 16 teams are entered and they will play a practice round Sunday at 12:30 p.m., followed by the first and second rounds Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Final round on the 6,250-yard, par-72 course will begin at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday from the first and 10th tees.

The seventh annual tournament, co-hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine, was held the last four years at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana. First two tournaments were conducted at Robinson Ranch Golf Course in Santa Clarita.

USC has won three of the previous six tournaments while Washington is the defending team champion. Erynne Lee of UCLA won last year's event with an even-par 216. She was a senior and won't be back to defend her title.

Cal Poly's five golfers will be sophomore Jamie Binns, Desiree Gillaspy and Jamie Harada, junior Lucy Robson and senior Madison Hirsch.

Harada (pictured above) leads the Mustangs with a 76.6 scoring average while Hirsch has compiled a 76.8 average with four top-20 finishes. Gillaspy is averaging 77.8 strokes per round, Binns 78.1 and Robson 80.0.
