Cal Poly Second After First Round of Lady Mustang Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – Four scores of 77 or better placed the Cal Poly women's golf team in second among 11 teams competing in the Lady Mustang Invitational on Saturday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Sophie Bergland (pictured at right) and Jamie Harada both posted a 73, Madison Hirsch carded a 76 and Desiree Gillaspy checked in with a 77 as Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs earned an 11-under-par 299 aggregate.

Santa Clara leads the Mustangs by one stroke, with UC Riverside third at 300.

Individual co-leaders after 18 holes are Hannah Facchini of UC Riverside and Clare Dittemore of Montana State, both with 71s on the 6,096-yard par-72 course. Five other golfers share third place with 72s.

Five Mustangs are competing as individuals, led by Jamie Binns with a 76 and Jamie Corr with a 77.

Sunday's final round begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
