Mustangs Second After 36 Holes in CSUB Spring Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Asia Adell and Madison Hirsch are tied for fourth place and led the Cal Poly women's golf team to second place after 36 holes of play in the CSUB Spring Invitational on Monday at the Bakersfield Country Club.

Adell (pictured at right) carded a 78 in the morning and 76 in the afternoon while Hirsch posted a 76 and 78 as both recorded six-over-par 154 totals on the 6,200-yard, par-74 course.

The Mustang duo is 13 strokes behind second-round leader Elisabeth Haavardsho of Cal State Northridge, who broke the Bakersfield CC course record for women with a 67 in the afternoon round for a seven-under-par 141 total.

Haavardsho leads Clariss Guce of Cal State Northridge by eight strokes entering Tuesday's final round. Morgan Fitts of South Dakota State is third at 152.

Other Mustang scores were a 74 and 81 by Kirsten Locke for a 155 total and sixth place, an 82 and 80 by Taylor Yoshitake for a 162 total and 12th place, and a 79 and 84 by Alex Phillips for a 163 total and 13th place.

Cal Poly also has entered a "B" team, which is third in the five-team field. Drew Thomas (78-79) and Morgan Thomas (80-77) both have 157 totals and are tied for seventh place. Giovanna Ascolani is 14th at 165 while Montana Kosty is 17th at 166 and Laura Howard 23rd at 172.

Cal State Northridge leads the team standings with a 13-over-par 605 total, followed by Cal Poly's "A" team at 622 and Cal Poly's "B" team at 644.
