Cal Poly Finishes Ninth in Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Arizona – Cal Poly bettered its team score by three strokes but slipped one spot into ninth place following the final round of play in the Red Rocks Invitational women's golf tournament Sunday at the Oakcreek Country Club.

Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs carded a 311 total for a 36-hole 625 aggregate. Toledo captured the team title with a 29-over-par 605 total, followed by Cal State Northridge at 609 and Southern Utah at 612. UC Riverside and Eastern Michigan shared fourth place in the 21-team field, each with 618 totals.

Cal Poly's top finisher was Alex Phillips with a final-round 78 for an eight-over-par 152 total, tied for 18th place. Kirsten Locke (pictured at right) had a 77 for a 155 total and a 26th-place tie while Asia Adell finished with a 76 for a 158 total and a 42nd-place tie.

Rounding out Cal Poly's scoring were Drew Thomas with a final-round 80 and a 161 total for a tie for 50th place and Taylor Yoshitake with a final-round 81 for a 162 total and a 58th-place tie.

Competing as an individual, Mustang Madison Hirsch carded a final-round 74 for a 159 total and a tie for 46th place.

Clariss Guce of Cal State Northridge claimed the individual title with rounds of 72 and 74 for a 146 total, one stroke ahead of both Amelia Ek of UC Riverside and Kelsey Chugg of Weber State.

Cal Poly returns to action March 25-26 at the Roadrunner Classic hosted by CSU Bakersfield at the Bakersfield Country Club.
