Cal Poly to Host UC Irvine for Senior Day

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's basketball team will host UC Irvine at 2 pm at Mott Athletics Center.

Prior to tip, the Mustangs will honor the team's four graduating seniors who will be playing their last home game in a Mustang uniform. Molly Schlemer, Jonae Ervin, Amaka Ofodu and junior Ariana Elegado, who is academically a senior, will be honored prior to the start of the game.

The Anteaters enter the game with the Mustangs with a 7-6 conference record (14-13 overall) after defeating UC Santa Barbara, 77-73, on Thursday. Cal Poly enters the game with a 9-5 record in Big West games and are 15-12 overall.

The Mustangs defeated UCI, 84-79, in the first game (Feb. 1). Senior Molly Schlemer scored a game-high 31 points when she connected on 15 of 24 shots from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Ariana Elegado got back on track, after scoring just four points at UC Davis, with 21 points. Fellow junior Kristen Ale came off the bench to add 15 points when she made four of eight from the floor and all five attempts from the line. Senior Amaka Ofodu was the fourth Mustang in double figures when she dropped in 10 points when she made four of five from the field.

Camille Buckley led UCI with 19 points and grabbed a remarkable 26 rebounds. Naessa Aguilar and Jasmine Bernard came off the bench to add 16 and 15 points respectively.

The Mustangs are currently tied for second place in the Big West standings with Hawai'i, one game back of conference-leading Cal State Northridge. UC Irvine is in a three way battle with Long Beach State and UC Davis for the fourth spot.
