Opening Tip: The Mustangs embark on a five game road trip starting with Pepperdine on Monday, Dec. 16. Tip is set for 7 pm in Malibu. Cal Poly has won three straight and five of the last six and enter the game with a 5-4 overall record. Pepperdine enters the game with Cal Poly with a 3-6 record.
Cal Poly is coming off a 63-54 win over Bakersfield on Dec. 7. In the win junior Ariana Elegado led the team with 14 points while senior Molly Schlemer added 10 points. Taryn Garza recorded a career-high in leading the team with 11 rebounds while adding nine points. Junior Amaka Ofodu tallied a career-high nine points while sophomore Beth Balbierz came off the bench to score seven points.
Cal Poly shot 34 percent from the floor and made three of seven from long range. The Mustangs held a slight edge in rebounds (46-43), but turned the ball over just 11 times.
This Week: Cal Poly travels South to play Pepperdine on Monday, Dec. 16. Cal Poly enters the game having won three straight while Pepperdine enters the game with a 3-6 record. What's coming up: Cal Poly will play the next five games on the road and will not return to Mott Athletics Center until Jan. 11 when the team will host Central Coast rival, UC Santa Barbara. The road trip will open with the team traveling to Pepperdine (Dec. 16) and follow it up with a trip to Oregon to face Portland (Dec. 18) and the University of Oregon (Dec. 20). Cal Poly will head South to face its third Pac-12 school this season when the team travels to UCLA (Dec. 28). The road trip concludes with the opening of the Big West Conference season when the team travels to Hawai'i on Jan. 8.

Pepperdine Notes: The Waves enter the game with the Mustangs with a 3-6 overall record having defeated Seattle (84-73), UC Irvine (76-59) and UC Riverside (81-68). Bria Richardson has led the team in seven of the of the team's nine games in scoring. She averages 18.2 points and has dished out 45 assists this season. Keitra Wallace averages 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while Ea Shoushtari adds 11.9 points and 7.2 rebounds. The team shoots 44 percent from the floor while opponents make 39 percent. Pepperdine also holds a 34 percent to 31 percent advantage in three point shooting. But the opponents have had more then 50 attempts (207-155) at the line. Pepperdine has made 111 while opponents have made 150. Pepperdine holds a 12-4 advantage over the Mustangs in the all-time series.
A Little About the Mustangs.....:
• The Mustangs earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament last season after winning the Big West Conference Tournament. Cal Poly posted a 21-11 overall record after falling to Penn State in the first round and a 13-5 mark in Big West Conference games. The Mustangs posted back-to-back Big West Regular Season Championships (2010-11 and 2011-12) with a 12-4 conference record in both seasons.
• The Mustangs won 21 games last season, tying the school record for most wins in a season. Cal Poly posted a Division I best 21 wins during the 2008-09 season when the team went 21-11. Overall in women's basketball history (since 1974-75), the team posted a 21-12 record in the 1981-82 season and 18-11 in 1979-80 when the team was competing at the Division II level. In 2011-12 the team won 17 games, one off pervious year (18) that tied for second-best in school history since making the move to Division I in the 1994-95 season. During the 2009-10 season, head coach Faith Mimnaugh's squad recorded 18 wins...
• The Mustangs have claimed the last four Big West Conference Player of the year awards with Molly Schlemer winning this past season, Kristina Santiago winning the award twice (2011-12 and 2009-10) and Rachel Clancy winning in 2010-11.
• The Mustangs have advanced to the postseason the last three seasons, twice in the WNIT. In 2011 the Mustangs hosted California and lost 74-60 while in 2012, Cal Poly traveled to Seattle and lost to Washington, 90-71.
• Cal Poly head coach Faith Mimnaugh picked up her 200 career win at Cal Poly with the team's 72-63 win at Nevada on Dec. 2, 2012. She is already has the most wins as a coach in program history, amassing 216 wins to this point in 16 seasons.

Three in a Row, Five of the Last Six....: Heading into the five game road trip the Mustangs have won three in a row and five of their last six games.... with all the wins coming at home.... The streak started with the home opening win over New Mexico State (72-64) and followed up with a convincing 82-57 win over Nevada... Cal Poly hit the road for a loss at Saint Mary's (77-69), but bounced back with wins over Akron (84-74), San Francisco (76-65) and Bakersfield (63-54)....
Pacing the Team: Senior Molly Schlemer leads the team in both points (16.4) and rebounds (10.8)... She has connected 51 percent of her shots from the floor while averaging 28.4 minutes per game...
The Big Three: Molly Schlemer leads the team with 16.4 points per game with Ariana Elegado and Jonae Ervin adding 15.3 and 12.7 points per game... Those three account for 62 percent of the team's offence .... The team's next highest scorer is Kristin Ale with 6.6 points per game....
Home Sweet Home... :Cal Poly is 5-0 this season in home games (0-4 in road or neutral) and are on pace to improve on last season's solid numbers... The Mustangs posted a 12-4 home record this past season and won nine straight, before falling to Long Beach State in the regular season finale. The Mustangs were 8-1 at home in conference games.
All Tourney...: Senior Molly Schlemer was named to the 2013 Holiday Beach Classic when she 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over Akron... She came back the next night to score 21 points and corral 10 rebounds... For Schlemer it was her fourth and fifth double-double of the season...
Rebound or Two...: Cal Poly outrebounded Akron 53-35 on Friday and in the USF game 52-42... Cal Poly as a team is up to 44.0 rebounds per game....
Ervin's Double-Double...: Senior Jonae Ervin pulled off a remarkable double-double against Akron.. The senior is known for her double-doubles with points and assists... but this time it was 14 points and 10 rebounds....
Taryn Garza Night.. : Junior Taryn Garza recorded her first double figure game as a Mustang when she scored 13 points when she converted six of eight shots from the floor in the win over Akron....She also added her first double figure rebound game, 11, as a Mustang against Bakersfield.
Money at the Line...: Junior Ariana Elegado has been money at the line this season... the two guard has only gone to the line 17 times this season, but she has made 15... 88 percent...
Oh What a Night...: Senior Molly Schlemer had one of those night's in the win over New Mexico State.. Schlemer tied her career-highs in both scoring and rebounding with 28 points and 17 rebounds... Her points came when she connected on 13 of 21 shots from the floor...
Schlemer's Double-Doubles...: In five of the nine games this season, senior Molly Schlemer has recorded double-doubles... Harvard, Stanford, New Mexico State, Akron and San Francisco..... for the season she has averaged 16.4 points and 10.8 rebounds...
Big West Player of the Week: Cal Poly senior Molly Schlemer (Santa Maria, Calif./Righetti HS) garnered Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week recognition as she averaged 17.3 points and 11.3 rebounds to help the Mustangs win two out of three games in the second week of the season.. Schlemer played a pivotal role in stopping a season-opening three-game slide, tying her career bests of 28 points and 17 rebounds in a 72-64 win against New Mexico State. She knocked down 13 of 21 shots from the field. Schlemer also collected her third double-double in four games. The 6-5 senior contributed 15 points and nine rebounds when she made seven of 14 shots from the floor in Cal Poly's 82-57 blowout win over Nevada. She finished the week with nine points, eight rebounds and a steal as the Mustangs lost, 77-69, at Saint Mary's. Schlemer shot 54.5 (24 of 44) percent from the field for the week.
A Block or Two.... : Redshirt freshman, Maddison Allen, averages 4.6 points and 5.9 rebounds... but she has tallied nine blocks in nine games, but seven have came in two... Against Nevada she scored eight points with 10 rebounds and four blocks.. On the road against Saint Mary's she scored 10 points with seven rebounds and three blocks....
The Jonae Show....: Senior Jonae Ervin has picked up where she left off last season with 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game... In the win over New Mexico State she tallied 11 points, five rebounds and six assists and against Nevada she scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds with nine assists...
On the Positive Side: Rebounding is up to 44.0 boards per game and assists are up to 14.7 per game.. while turnovers are down to 14.3 per game...
Ervin vs. Stanford... : Senior Jonae Ervin had an all-around solid game in the loss to No. 5 Stanford... Ervin scored a team-high 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists....
Jonae Ervin Earns All-Tournament: Senior Jonae Ervin earned all-tournament honors at the Maggie Dixon Classic when she scored 19 and 23 against Duquesne and Harvard respectively. In the two games she shot 45 percent from the floor and made four of seven from long range. She added 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists per game... She averaged 38 minutes a game.

Schlemer Named BWC Tournament MVP: Molly Schlemer added to her accolades when she was named the Big West Conference Tournament MVP when she scored 26 points in the semifinal game against UC Santa Barbara and corralled 16 rebounds in the championship game against Pacific.
Molly Schlemer Named Conference Player of the Year: Molly Schlemer was named the Big West Conference 2012-13 Player of the Year and All Big West Conference First Team last year, the fourth straight for the Cal Poly women's basketball program. The native of Santa Maria, averaged 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds while recording 20 blocked shots in 32 games. She concluded the season 10th in the nation in field goal percentage when she connected on 54.2 percent of her shots from the floor.
Ervin No. 4 in Assist/Turnover Ratio: Jonae Ervin has been one of the nations top assists/turnover player over the past two season... She led the nation in 2011-12 with 2.61 and was fourth last season at 2.61...
An Assists or Two...: The Mustangs were ranked 22nd in the nation and led the Big West Conference with 15.9 assists per game.

Back to Back..: In back to back games, Jonae Ervin dished out 11 assists (UC Santa Barbara and CS Northridge) and the third time this season... Against CS Northridge, Ervin was credited with 11 assists and three turnovers. In the win over UC Santa Barbara one week later, Ervin dished out 11 assists, but this time without a turnover. She was the NCAA leader last season with a ratio of 2.67. The UCSB game was the fourth in her career with 10 or more assists in a game.

Geralynn Leaupepe 5-9 Guard Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS
Helped lead Camarillo High School as a junior to a 20-10 record when she averaged 16.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game as the team captured the Pacific View League title. She was named to the CIF All-Southern Section Division 2A Team last season while earning First-Team All-Ventura County and first-team all-league. She was named the Pacific View Co-Player of the Year and team Co-MVP.
Geraldynn Leaupepe 5-9 Guard Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS
Helped lead Camarillo High School to a 20-10 record as a junior. She averaged 17.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.9 steals, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game last season. She set the program's single season record with 311 rebounds. She was named CIF All-Southern Section Division 2A Team and Ventura County Player of the Year. She was the Pacific View Co-Player of the Year and the team's Co-MVP with her sister. She was also named first-team all-county and first-team all-league. The twins played for club basketball for Cal Sparks. Both Leaupepe sisters have also competed in track and field for the Scorpions. At the 2012 CIF Southern Section Masters Meet, Geralynn was 10th in the shot put (38 feet, 11 inches), while Geraldynn finished in 12th place in the discus (122-6).
Zonyia Cormier 5-6 Point Guard Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento HS
Led Sacramento High School to a 27-5 record last season and the CIF Division II Section Championship. She averaged 7.9 points, 2.6 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 2.8 steals as a junior. She was named Sacramento All-Metro Honorable Mention. Zonyia played club basketball for Cal Sparks NorCal.
Nicole Fausey 6-4 Center Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak HS
Led Glacier Peak High School to an 18-6 record and the Wesco 3A South Championship. Finished seventh in the state playoffs when she averaged 9.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. Named All-Wesco 3A First-Team and holds the record at Glacier Peak HS record for blocks in a season. Selected to play in the 2013 Washington/North Idaho All-State Game. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. Nicole played club for Way to Win.
Emily Anderson 6-0 Forward Clovis, Calif./Clovis West HS
Led Clovis West High School to a 23-6 record as a junior, winning the league championship and CIF Central Section Championship. She averaged 15.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while converting 83 percent of her shots at the line. She was named Second-Team All-State Division I, Frist-Team All-Section and was the TRAC League Player of the Year. She was also named to the Fresno Bee All-Area First-Team. She played club for Cal Swish.
