SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Former Cal Poly women's basketball standout, Kristina Santiago, was named the MVP of the Bulgarian Women's Basketball League it was announced on Monday.
Santiago averaged 21.6 points while shooting 61 percent from the floor in 25 games as the Dunav 8806 posted a 19-5 record. Her all-around game included 8.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.
During the regular season Santiago scored in double figures in all 25 games and recorded a season-high 33 points against Rilski Sportist on Nov. 17 when she made 15 of 20 shots from the floor.
Dunav 8806, based in Ruse, Bulgaria, also competed in the 2012-13 Eurocup where Santiago averaged 16 points and seven rebounds in four games.
The two-time Big West Conference Player of the Year concluded her career (2007-12) at Cal Poly leading the team in scoring in three of the years on the team and averaged 16.0 points per game. She is Cal Poly's all-time leading scorer with 1,953 points and all-time leading rebounder when she corralled 850 boards.
Dunav will open the playoffs on April 4.
