Rickman finished fifth at the 2017 Big West Conference Championships, compiling 6,655 points (ranking No. 9 in school history). At last year's Sam Adams Invite, he broke the meet record for the shot put (to 50 feet, 5.5 inches) previously held by Ashton Eaton. Two seasons ago at the same stadium for the Jim Klein Multis, Rickman also tallied a score of 6,653.

Thayer also competed at last year's Sam Adams meet, entering nine of the 10 events en route to a partial score of 5,344. Thayer competed in at least three events at each of the Mustangs' first four meets of 2018, including four in one day at the UCSB Tri-Meet on March 10. At 6' 6.75", Thayer currently owns the No. 6 high jump ranking in the conference.

Lewis, who has also competed in four separate events in his debut spring with the Mustangs (also contributing to two 4x400m relays), displayed his versatility by advancing to three Colorado State Championship finals at Regis Jesuit HS in 2017.

Lanovaz, meanwhile, closed her freshman 2017 finishing seventh at the USATF Junior (U-20) Outdoor National Championships, with 4,613 points in Sacramento. She also took sixth place (4,763) at the Big West Championships a year ago, only 38 points back of entering the Top 10 in school history. Lanovaz, who also vied in three events at the 2017 Sam Adams Invite (and tallied 3,461 points at the UW Invitational indoor pentathlon in January), presently ranks No. 5 throughout the Big West for the long jump, at 19' 1.5".

Viss scored a career-best 4,411 points at Sam Adams in 2017, and went on to earn 13th at the Big West Championships as a sophomore, with a score of 4,351. As a redshirt freshman in 2016, Viss also took 12th at the conference championships (4,221) after a fifth-place Jim Klein Multis (4,168).

Ruback also earned her season-best performance in Montecito last year, with 4,140 points, and almost matched that score at the Big West Championships (4,128). Her career-best tally, 4,269, came at the 2016 conference championships.

Hunter Veith (7,610 points) and Lindsay Schwartz (5,773) are the defending champions, while the meet records have been held by Chris Randolph (7,840) and Cal Poly alumna Sharon Day-Monroe (6,337) since 2012.

Two Team USA veterans, Austin Bahner and Becky Collier, are among the 2018 entrants. Bahner, whose career-best 7,847 came in 2013, was 13th at the 2017 USATF Outdoors (6,761), while Collier, who won the NAIA national title in 2017 (via a PR of 5,178 points), recently took 10th at the 2018 USATF Indoor Pentathlon.
