Mustang Minute: Junior Distance Runner Swarnjit Boyal

EDITOR'S NOTE: Mustang Minute, which debuted in February and features interviews with student-athletes each Monday, puts the spotlight on junior Swarnjit Boyal this week.

Boyal is one of seven Mustangs traveling to Texas for the West Preliminary Round of the NCAA Championships. All schools west of the Mississippi River will compete in Austin from Thursday through Saturday, while the East concurrently vies at Kentucky.

Top 12 finishers from both regionals advance to Oregon for the NCAA finals from June 7-10.

Boyal qualified in two different events: the 10,000 meters (scheduled for 9:40 p.m. CDT Thursday) and 5,000 meters (8:45 p.m. CDT Saturday). His season-best times in each were 29:25.07 and 14:01.48.

He also won the Big West Conference championship for the 10,000 on May 12. A civil engineering major from Yuba City, Boyal has made the Big West All-Academic Team for three consecutive years.
