Cal Poly to Host UCSB for Blue-Green Rivalry Dual Meet on Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track & field program will host UC Santa Barbara for the annual Blue-Green Rivalry Dual Meet on Saturday, finishing the regular season at home head-to-head vs. the Gauchos.

The hammer throw and discus will begin at 10 a.m. at Cuesta College, before all other events move to Cal Poly, going from 1 to 4:30 p.m. For a full meet schedule, click here.

First-place finishes will score 5 team points, followed by 3 points tallied per second place, 2 for third place and 1 per fourth (with only two student-athletes per school counting in the scoring totals).

The upcoming postseason will start with the Big West Multi-Event Championships, as Cal State Fullerton will host the decathlon and heptathlon on May 5-6, before the full conference championships return to CSF from May 12-13.

Cal Poly features 23 men ranked in the top 10 throughout the Big West in at least one event, including junior Swarnjit Boyal, the conference leader in both the 5,000 (14:01.48) and 10,000 (29:25.07) meters.

Fifteen Mustang women are ranked among the top 10 in the conference, led by the Big West's top 5,000m runner, Peyton Bilo (15:52.01).

Among the Mustangs' graduating seniors, the meet will be the final home appearance for sprinters Tyler Rohde, Jessica Escalante and Liesl Shirhall; hurdlers Ben Hartinger, Jessica Davis and Mallory Patino; mid-distance specialist Allie Sulaitis; distance runners David Galvez and Kylie Nishisaka; shot put and discus throwers Arnie Sambel and Nate Vickers; long/triple and high jumpers Jirael Hipol and Danny Shellworth; and multi-events athletes Ted Scranton, Danny Yeager and Jessica Rasmussen.

The Gauchos come in led by Tori Usgaard, ranked 14th nationally in the heptathlon (5,551 points) and Kordell Hampton, No. 36 in the country in the discus (182' 1").
