Cal Poly Travels to Bay Area for Stanford Invitational, Distance Carnival

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track & field team will travel to the Bay Area for a pair of meets this weekend, competing at the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday and Saturday.

The Mustangs began this week led by 10 student-athletes whose season-best times or marks currently rank among the top five per event throughout the Big West Conference:

Allie Sulaitis, 800m - 2:12.34
Peyton Bilo, 1,500m - 4:25.53
Mallory Patino, 400m Hurdles - 1:02.59
Abi Iriafen, Triple Jump - 39' 4"
Liam Martinez, 400m - 48.21
Mikey Giguere, 1,500m - 3:53.72
Ben Hartinger, 110m Hurdles - 14.61
Devon Grove, 3,000m Steeplechase - 9:31.33
Brad Beekman, Pole Vault - 15' 9"
Arnie Sambel, Shot Put - 57' 10.25" and Discus - 173' 5"

All 10 individuals also rank within the top 55 for the NCAA's West Region — topped by Bilo at No. 8 (also No. 18 nationally), while senior Nate Vickers also ranks No. 39 west of the Mississippi River in the shot put, at 55' 5.75".

Altogether, nearly 65 Mustangs are scheduled to compete between the two meets. Links to follow both can be found below.

Following the team's return, multi-events competitors will have their first decathlon and heptathlon of the spring, April 7-8 at the Sam Adams Invite hosted by Westmont.
