Five Mustangs Finish in Top 15 at Husky Classic Indoor Track & Field Meet

Scott, Rasmussen, Ruotolo, Iriafen and Zweng Lead Cal Poly at Washington

SEATTLE — Five Mustangs posted top-15 individual finishes at the Husky Classic on Saturday, leading the Cal Poly women's track & field team inside Dempsey Indoor on the Washington campus.

In the morning's 60-meter dash prelims, senior Mishe' Scott was only 11-hundredths of a second back of advancing to the finals, finishing in 12th place overall (second in the ninth heat) with a time of 7.79 seconds. Jessica Escalante also ran a time of 8.01 seconds (31st), followed by fellow senior Liesl Shirhall at 8.16 (38th) and sophomore Ralaina LiDrazzah at 8.22 (41st).

Later on the track, Mustang freshman Julianna Ruotolo won the second of six heats for the 400 meters, with a time of 58.27 seconds, ultimately coming in 13th place overall when merged with the afternoon results.

Meanwhile in the field, another Mustang freshman, Julie Zweng, finished 12th in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3.75 inches, and senior Jessica Rasmussen was 15th in the long jump, with a mark of 17' 3.5".

Scott also finished within the top 20 in the long jump (with a 19th-place 17' 0.5"), and freshman Abi Iriafen came in 32nd (15' 8.75"). A few hours afterward, Iriafen added a 13th-place triple jump mark of 36' 10.5".

A duo of Mustangs ran in the 3,000 meters. Junior Molly Haar took 10th place through the two afternoon sections (45th overall) at 9:42.80 (a PR whether indoors or outdoors), before sophomore Peyton Bilo came in sixth in her evening section (23rd altogether) with a time of 9:20.46 (18.52 seconds faster than her outdoor debut in the 3,000m last year).

In the mile, sophomore Hannah Hull was 72nd overall with a time of 5:01.66, and freshman Ashley Heys came in 78th at 5:05.87.

Senior Christina Dyok and Rasmussen also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, taking 26th and 35th place, at 9.38 and 9.71.

Allison Scranton came in 33rd place in the weight throw (with a mark of 48 feet and a half-inch), before also taking 34th place in the shot put (40' 5"), in which junior Kiely Osby finished 28th at 41' 10.5".

The meet began Friday, as Escalante finished 25th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.69 seconds. Shirhall was 37th at 26.77, followed by LiDrazzah in 41st at 27.17.

Ruotolo returned at the end of the meet, teaming up with junior Chloe Carlson, senior Mallory Patino and junior Bailey Sanin to finish ninth in the 4x400m relay, at 3:56.21.

Cal Poly alumna Sharon Day-Monroe, now with ASICS professionally, took second in the 60m hurdles (at 8.51), and was third in the high jump (5' 8.75") and 10th in the shot (47' 0.25").

The Mustangs will now train for the outdoor season, starting with the Cal Opener in Berkeley on Saturday, March 4.
