Cal Poly to Host Annual Track & Field Invitational on Saturday

#ShareSLO Meet Scheduled From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Mustang track & field program will host the 34th annual Cal Poly #ShareSLO Invitational on Saturday.

Scoring will start Friday with the hammer throw at 3 p.m.; all other events will be held Saturday, beginning with the javelin at 11 a.m. and ending just before 4 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relays.

A full schedule of events can be viewed HERE. The meet is free to attend. Live results will be available via PhotoTiming.com.

Nearly 80 Mustangs are entered in at least one event at the meet, which will also feature squads from Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield, in addition to nine more programs (including Cuesta College), plus two clubs and several professionals competing individually.

The invite includes four Mustang juniors scheduled to compete in events in which they own Top 10 times or marks in school history: Daijah Joe-Smith in the women's 100-meter dash (11.72 seconds), Mallory Patino in the women's 400m hurdles (1:01.50), Ben Hartinger in the 110m hurdles (14.43) and Arnie Sambel in the men's discus (175 feet).

Five more teammates also in the Cal Poly all-time Top 10 scheduled to compete are seniors Nick Ahrold (206 feet and 7.75 inches) & Alex Ziebart (200' 6") in the men's javelin and Kendal Nielsen (40' 10.5") in the women's triple jump, and sophomores Danielle Taylor (5' 9.25" in the high jump) and Kiely Osby (47' 8.5" in the shot put).

A contingent of 15 Cal Poly runners will compete in the men's 1,500 meters, including senior Nick Woolf, a three-time Big West distance champion (twice in the steeplechase and once in the 5,000).

The women's 1,500, meanwhile, also includes Peyton Bilo, an NCAA Cross Country Championships qualifier as a freshman, as well as Katie Izzo, last year's fourth-place finisher in the 3,200 at the CIF State Championships.

Mishe' Scott, another of Cal Poly's 10 returning all-conference honorees, will compete in her premier event, the long jump (where she has a PR of 19' 1.5").

Dimitri Voytilla, who was fourth at last spring's conference championships in the 5,000 meters as a sophomore, is entered in Saturday's 5K, while another junior who was only one spot back of a trip to the Big West medal stand, Danny Shellworth, will compete in the high jump (6' 7.5").

Having finished the Jim Klein Multi-Events Invitational last weekend, the Mustangs' decathletes (a group including three all-conference scorers in senior Devin Bennett and juniors Ted Scranton & Ivy Adair, plus sophomore Jacob Rickman) and heptathletes (junior Jessica Rasmussen, sophomore Kirby Ruback and redshirt freshman Keana Viss) will use the home meet to focus on specific events.

Stephanie Brown Trafton, a 2003 Cal Poly alum and six-time All-American, is also scheduled to step into the discus ring Saturday, alongside Osby.

Brown Trafton, a three-time Olympian, won the gold medal in 2008 at the Beijing Games. She went on to more recently break the American record (at 222' 3") in the event in 2012.

Additionally, two more former All-Americans will also compete on the women's side: current Cal Poly senior Erika Veidis in the 800 meters (2:04.68 at Harvard in 2013) and Danielle Bryan in the high jump (5' 10" a year ago).

John Prader, another Mustang All-American alumni (in 2012), is also entered in the men's pole vault. The school record-holder (18' 7.25") will be challenged by sophomore Tomi Nord (15' 6") on Saturday.

All entries can be viewed HERE.

Construction is ongoing along the Grand Avenue entrance to campus due to the student housing project, but parking is available for free on weekends in the four-story structure adjacent to the track, as well as in the G2 lot neighboring the spectator field to the west of the track.

Further on-campus parking is open in lots H12 and H14 next to Baggett Stadium.
