SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Following a program sweep of Pacific last Saturday, the Cal Poly men's and women's swim teams will host UC Santa Cruz at 11 a.m. PT Saturday at Anderson Aquatic Center. Seven Mustang seniors will be honored prior to the dual meet with the Banana Slugs.
The Cal Poly men's team is 2-1 in dual meets this season, while the women's team is 2-2 overall.
During Cal Poly's sweep of the Tigers last week, seven Mustangs delivered a pair of individual event wins, including seniors Alisha Bender and Allison de Peralta on the women's side and sophomore Zach Cootes from the men's side.
Against Pacific, Bender won both the 100-yard freestyle (52.12) and 200 free (1:53.05), de Peralta captured the 100 back (58.22) and 200 back (2:07.32), while Cootes delivered event wins in both the 200 IM (1:54.78) and 200 fly (1:52.80).
Bender was named the Coca-Cola/Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday after her performances against the Tigers last week.
Cal Poly will honor four swimmers from the women's program and three from the men's side during Saturday's Senior Day festivities. Joining Bender and from the women's team are Belen Enguidanos, Taylor Guy and Gabby Lindlbad while Blake Faris, Mickey Mackle and Alan Peterson will be recognized from the men's side.
The Mustangs have swept the Banana Slugs on both sides (men's and women's) during each of the last three seasons. UCSC is 1-1 in men's dual meets this year and the women are 1-4.
This week, Cal Poly will also compete in the three-day Bruin Diving Invitational hosted by UCLA at the Spieker Aquatics Center that runs from Thursday through Saturday. Check GoPoly.com for complete results and schedule information.
