SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis associate head coach Garrett Patton has been selected by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to coach the USTA SoCal Section team at the boys 14's Zone Team Championships that will be held July 25-29 in Stockton, Calif.
"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to coach the SoCal section team," Patton said. "Being the only junior team tennis event of its kind, zonals is a great chance for the kids to get a preview of college tennis."
The event is one of the most prestigious junior team tennis events in the country. It consists of 12 teams — four from southern California, three from northern California, two from the pacific northwest, two intermountain teams, and one team from Hawai'i.
The first three days of team scoring will consist of a round-robin style format with all the teams competing and will feature four doubles matches, two mixed doubles matches, and 12 singles matches. The final day will feature six doubles matches and 12 singles matches followed by the championship. The team with the most points is the winner of the Team Match.
