Ortlip Earns Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week Honor

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After doing his part to help the Cal Poly men's tennis team nearly take down a Top-25 opponent, senior Josh Ortlip was named this week's Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Ortlip had his most impressive wins of the season last week against No. 22 Arizona. He won both his singles match at the No. 1 position and his doubles match at the No. 1 spot as the Mustangs were narrowly edged by the No. 22 Wildcats 4-3.

Ortlip teamed with fellow senior Dominic Bechard for the first time this season at No. 1 doubles, taking down Arizona's Jonas Ziverts and Carlos Hassey 6-4.

He then beat Ziverts at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to improve his singles record to 4-3 this season.

This is Orltip's fourth career Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor and the second Mustang to receive the award this season.

Cal Poly will have two home matches this week. The Mustangs will first host UNLV on Friday at noon followed by Denver on Sunday at noon from Mustang Tennis Complex. Admission to all home matches is free to everyone.
