Mustang Men's Soccer Trumped at Cal State Fullerton, 1-0

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton junior forward Jameson Campbell's seventh-minute goal stood as the difference on Wednesday evening as the Titans slid past the Cal Poly men's soccer program at Titan Stadium, 1-0.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick McLain registered four saves for Cal Poly (6-6-2, 3-3-0), which suffered its first defeat at Titan Stadium in nearly five years. Cal Poly, which entered the match in a three-way tie for second place in the Big West standings, slipped to third with Wednesday's defeat after UC Davis (6-6-2, 4-2-0) upset No. 7 UC Irvine in overtime, 2-1.

The Mustangs continue their three-match road trip at new co-conference leader UC Davis on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Campbell notched the match-winning strike with Cal State Fullerton's first shot of the night, besting McLain from 10 yards.

Cal Poly was held to just a single shot attempt during the opening 19 minutes until sophomore forward George Malki struck the Titan crossbar. Senior midfielder Kyle Montgomery, who finished with a match-best three shots, then pounded a second attempt off the crossbar in the 25th minute.

The Mustangs tested Cal State Fullerton senior goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon twice during the first half and another three teams during the second, but failed to unlock the Titan defense.
