Fields, Big West Drop Friday Pair at 3X3U National Championship


MINNEAPOLIS – Cal Poly men's basketball senior guard Donovan Fields finished with a game high six rebounds and two assists, but his Big West Conference squad dropped a 21-20 decision to the American Athletic Conference on Friday and finished day No. 1 of the 3X3U National Championship with a 0-2 mark.

The Big West Conference's defeat to the American Athletic Conference followed a 21-11 loss to the Northeast Conference during Friday's opening matchup inside the Mall of America. Fields finished with three rebounds versus the Northeast Conference.

The Big West completes Pool C play at the 3X3U National Championship on Saturday, April 6 versus the Atlantic 10 Conference at 8:10 a.m. PT. That game will be streamed live on Twitter HERE.

The top two squads in each of the field's eight pools advances to the knockout round.

Featuring players who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility, the 3X3U National Championship features four-man teams representing each of the 32 NCAA Division I conferences in a three-on-three format. Each game consists of 10 minutes and a 12-second shot clock with one point awarded for baskets inside the three-point arc and two for baskets outside the arc. First team to 21 points wins.

Aside from Fields, the Big West is represented by Long Beach State guard Deishuan Booker, UC Santa Barbara guard Ar'mond Davis and UC Irvine forward Jonathan Galloway.

The round of 16 and quarterfinal matchups will also be streamed via Twitter, starting at 7:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, April 7.

The semifinal, third-place game and championship matchup will air live on ESPN2 at 12 noon on Sunday.
