SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly is enforcing a Clear Bag Policy for the 2019 football season, primarily to maintain the safety and security of the games while increasing the efficiency for fans entering Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
"Due to national and global events, security officials have deemed backpacks and large bags as heightened security threats," said Chris Baker, Cal Poly's Associate Athletics Director for External Relations. "Cal Poly Athletics is dedicated to enhancing fan safety and security measures, and the use of clear bags is a recommended best practice throughout the industry."
Fans will be allowed to bring one personal clear bag (12 by 6 by 12 inches or smaller or a one-gallon freezer bag) and a wristlet/clutch/wallet.
Non-clear diaper bags and medically necessary items/bags will still be permitted at Cal Poly football games, but must go through a thorough search process. Placing necessary items for infants and toddlers in an approved clear bag will reduce the amount of time needed to search bags.
Fans may not place non-approved bags inside an approved clear bag. Fans are encouraged to leave non-approved bags and items at home or in their vehicle.
Items that are prohibited inside Spanos Stadium include but are not limited to outside beverages (factory-sealed plastic bottles or water are allowed), air horns, whistles, megaphones, weapons of any kind, alcoholic beverages, bags that violate the bag policy, animals (other than service animals), laser pointers, lawn chairs and tobacco products, E-cigarettes or vaporizers.
Unauthorized cameras with lenses longer than 3.5 inches, interchangeable or telephoto lenses, video cameras, monopods and tripods also are not allowed except for credentialed individuals.
