Three Home Dates Highlight 2020 Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Schedule

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Featuring matches against five of the other seven teams who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships, Cal Poly beach volleyball released its 2020 schedule that also includes three home dates.

Returning seven players who earned All-Big West honors last season, the Mustangs will open the 2020 season on Feb. 22 in Tallahassee, Fla. against South Carolina. There, they will also play two teams who also made last year's NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. in Stetson and Florida State.

Following that two day event, Cal Poly will return home to play for the first time at the new on-campus beach volleyball facility behind Mott Athletics Center next to Anderson Aquatics Center on Feb. 29 against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

They then head to Phoenix for a two day event that will see them play four matches. Following that, they go to Malibu, Calif. where they will face Pepperdine again, the defending national champions in UCLA, and Georgia State.

They then return back home for consecutive home dates split between the on-campus courts and the courts at Pismo Beach, Calif. On March 21, they will host both Cal and Saint Mary's at the courts on campus. Then on March 25, they will host Washington and Arizona at the courts in Pismo Beach.

That leads to them heading to Long Beach, Calif. for the Big West Challenge in which they will play all six other Big West teams, including Hawai'i who also made it to last year's NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships.

The Mustangs will spend the rest of the season on the road and will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, Salt Lake City, UT, and Los Angeles. Some of their opponents during that stretch include Pepperdine for the third time, TCU, Utah, and USC, who finished as the national runner-up last season.

The Big West Tournament, which Cal Poly won for the first time last season, will take place April 17-19 in Davis, Calif.

The NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships will once again take place in Gulf Shores, Ala. from May 1-3.

The Mustangs enjoyed their most successful season in the program's six-year history last season with a 25-12 record, their first Big West title, and first NCAA Tournament appearance. They also finished ranked as the No. 8 team in the nation and were ranked in the top 10 the entire season.
