SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After going 4-0 last weekend to help lead the Cal Poly beach volleyball program to its first Big West Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, the Mustangs' No. 1 pairing of senior Crissy Jones and sophomore Tia Miric have been named this week's AVCA/CollegeBeachVB.com Pair of the Week.
Jones and Miric swept all four of their matches at the top position. Those four wins came against pairs from Sacramento State, Long Beach State, and Hawai'i twice.
The duo sports a 22-7 record this season, the most wins on the team. They are currently riding a five match win streak and are 7-3 in their last 10 matches.
This is the program's first AVCA/CollegeBeachVB.com Pair of the Week honor of the season and the second in the program's history. Emily Sonny and Samantha Manley garnered the first last season.
The Mustangs now prepare for their first NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala. Cal Poly is the No. 6 seed in the eight-team, double-elimination-style tournament and will face No. 3 seed Florida State on Friday at 10 a.m. PT. That match will be broadcast live on ESPNU and ESPN3.com. The NCAA Tournament runs May 3-5 will all matches prior to the national championship airing on either ESPNU or ESPN2. The championship match on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT will air on ESPN.
