Larry Morgan was a four-year wrestling letterman at Cal Poly, compiling a 112-21-1 overall record, including a 38-2-1 mark as a senior in 1973.
As a sophomore he placed second in the NCAA Division II National Championships. As a junior he was second in Division II and fifth in Division I. As a senior he won the Division II national title and was voted most outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
Morgan compiled an 82-2 record in his last two years at East Bakersfield High School. He competed in numerous national and international wrestling tournaments after his graduation from Cal Poly, including a fourth-place finish in the 1973 World Championships at Tehran, Iran, and was an alternate for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada.
Also in 1976, Morgan was the AAU National Greco champion. A year later, he won the USA Freestyle championship and was named outstanding wrestler. Morgan also competed in the 1975 Pan Am Games at Mexico City.
He served as assistant wrestling coach at the University of Iowa from 1975-76 and at Cal State Bakersfield from 1977-81.
For the past 22 years he has been owner and president of Morgan Corporation, a commercial real estate firm in Bakersfield. He also has served as an assistant coach at Bakersfield High School, which finished second in the state in 2001 and earned the state championship in 2002, breaking four state records.
