Dan Chergey holds the school career records for wins (32),
innings pitched (457), complete games (27) and strikeouts (296),
set during the 1990-93 seasons, and led Cal Poly into the NCAA
postseason each of his last three years as a Mustang, including the
Division II College World Series in both 1992 and 1993.
He won 11 games in 1993, which was the school record until 2005.
Chergey twice earned NCAA All-American honors (1991, 1993), was named CCAA pitcher of the year as a sophomore and senior and was Cal Poly's Male Athlete of the Year in 1993. He earned All-West Region honors three times and was tabbed West Region pitcher of the year in 1993, the year Cal Poly finished second in the Division II College World Series.
Chergey was a member of the Division II College World Series All-Tournament Team in 1992. He was a redshirt in 1989 when Cal Poly won the Division II title.
Chergey was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 22nd round in 1993 and reached the Triple-A level before his professional career was cut short by injury in 1998.
Chergey graduated from Cal Poly in social science and is now CEO/Chairman of Daniel Chergey Insurance Agency in Thousand Oaks. He and his wife LeeAndra have one son, Ryan, and one daughter, Jenna.
