Zachary Reed joined the Mustang Success Center in July 2018 as an Athletic Academic Advisor. His sport assignments include men’s and women’s track & field and cross country, women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s swimming & diving. He is also part of the Student-Athlete Leadership Development team.
Prior to Cal Poly, Reed spent over three years at South Dakota State University (SDSU) where he most recently oversaw the Dakota Return Child of Alumni Program. His responsibilities included monitoring academic progress, certifying continued eligibility, and advising at-risk COA students. Before that, Zach served as a graduate assistant at SDSU in the Registrar’s Office and Enrollment Services. He worked most closely with transcripts, graduation, and strategic enrollment management.
Zach also brings a wealth of coaching experience to his advising position in Mustang Athletics. At South Dakota State, Reed assisted the Jackrabbit wrestling program from 2015-17. During his tenure, SDSU berthed 10 NCAA Championships qualifiers and yielded two All-Americans. The Jackrabbits took third place in the Big 12 Conference finals and 16th place at the NCAA Championships in 2017. Reed also coordinated the youth wrestling program in Brookings, using experience from coaching stints at Wayne and Winside high schools in Nebraska prior to South Dakota State.
Reed received a bachelor of arts degree (Spanish & Physical Education) from Wayne State College in 2015, and a master of education degree (Educational Administration) from South Dakota State University in 2017. He maintains membership in the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and the National Academic Advisors Association (NACADA).
A native of Le Mars, Iowa, Zach resides in San Luis Obispo.
