Maia Dvoracek, Outside Hitter, 6-1, Junior, Truckee, Calif. | Truckee High School
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After leading the Cal Poly volleyball team in kills and helping the Mustangs (3-3, 0-0 Big West) win three straight matches last week, junior outside hitter Maia Dvoracek has been named the Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Dvoracek averaged 3.45 kills per set and totaled 18 aces to go along with 30 digs in Cal Poly’s wins over North Texas, Wichita State and San Jose State during last week’s inaugural ShareSLO Mustang Challenge.
In the five-set win over the Shockers, she collected her second career double-double with a match-high 17 kills and 14 digs. She nearly got a triple-double after putting up eight service aces, which tied the program record for most in a match.
She currently has 26 aces for the year, which leads Division I. She also has already collected more aces than any Mustang player did all of last season.
With the three wins, Cal Poly extended its record-setting home winning streak to 24 matches, the second-longest active winning streak in Division I. The Mustangs travel to Malibu this weekend for the Pepperdine Asics Classic to take on No. 6 Pittsburgh as well as Pepperdine on Friday and No. 16 Utah for the second time this season on Saturday.
