SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After leading the Cal Poly volleyball team in kills in all three of the No. 15 Mustangs’ Big West matches last week, junior outside hitter Torrey Van Winden has been named the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Van Winden (Napa, CA / Vintage HS) was extremely efficient in Cal Poly’s sweeps of UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside to begin conference play. She averaged 4.67 kills per set while hitting .419 and only committing six errors.
She recorded her fourth double-double of the season against UC Davis with 14 kills and 16 digs. For the week, she totaled 42 kills, 31 digs, five blocks and three service aces. She is currently tied for first in the Big West in hitting percentage (.364) and is second in total kills (239).
Van Winden has posted double-figure kill numbers in 13 of Cal Poly’s 14 matches this season. She also has four matches of at least 20 kills this season and is seventh in the nation in kills per set (4.88).
The No. 15 Mustangs are 13-1 overall this season and 3-0 in the Big West. They are currently riding a 12-match win streak.
Cal Poly will host CSUN on Friday at 7 p.m. and Long Beach State on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
