SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After winning both his singles and doubles matches to help the Cal Poly men’s tennis program upset No. 50 Utah last weekend, junior Antoine Noel has been named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row.
The Mustangs took down the Utes 5-2 Saturday at Mustang Tennis Complex, their most impressive win of the season, to get their record back to over .500 at 6-5.
Noel and freshman Gary Vardanyan won their match at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, to help the Mustangs secure the doubles point. The duo is now 3-1 since becoming a pair and have won three in a row.
Noel then won his match at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. With the win, he improved his singles record to 7-2 and is riding a three-match winning streak.
The men’s tennis team will play the last of its five-match home stand Friday when it hosts Nevada at 10 a.m. from Mustang Tennis Complex. After that, the Mustangs hit the road to face New Mexico on Sunday at noon.
