SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After scoring a season-high 19 points during the Cal Poly men’s basketball program’s 68-47 home victory versus Holy Names on Jan. 4, senior guard Marcellus Garrick was named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
In recording his seventh double-digit scoring game of the season, Garrick finished 7-for-13 from the floor and matched a career high with five three-pointers. He also produced two steals in 23 minutes of action.
Garrick’s five three-pointers marked the second highest total by a Mustang this season.
Ranked third in Cal Poly’s lineup with 10.2 points per game, Garrick is also seventh among Big West Conference players with 2.1 three-pointers sank per game.
Cal Poly (4-9) opens its 23rd season of Big West play when visiting UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and hosting CSUN on Saturday, Jan. 12. Tip time is 7 p.m. both evenings for Cal Poly, which has won five of its last seven Big West openers, including overturning a 21-point, first-half deficit versus UC Santa Barbara a year ago.
