SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After scoring a game-high 26 points during the Cal Poly men’s basketball program’s 67-66 loss at California on Dec. 15, senior guard Donovan Fields was named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week for a second straight week and third time this season.
During Saturday’s matchup, Fields finished 10-for-21 from the floor, hit four three-pointers, grabbed four rebounds and distributed three assists. His final field goal was a contested jumper in the lane with 16 seconds to play which provided Cal Poly a 66-65 lead. However, California guard Paris Austin sank the game-winning shot with 3.8 seconds remaining to hand California the victory.
Fields, who recorded his fifth 20-point game of the season, also co-leads Cal Poly with six double-digit scoring outings.
Among Big West Conference players, Fields now ranks fifth with 17.0 points, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
As a program, Cal Poly (3-6) concludes a two-game road trip versus CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Tip time from the Icardo Center is 7 p.m.
