SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After scoring a game high 28 points in 42 minutes during the Cal Poly men’s basketball program’s 80-78, overtime home victory versus Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 8, senior guard Donovan Fields was named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week for a second time this year.
Now sixth among Big West Conference players with 15.9 points per game, Fields finished 11-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-6 from three-point range against Bethune-Cookman while handing out four assists – the last of which set up sophomore Mark Crowe for the game-winning three-pointer as time expired.
His 28-point effort – 25 of which came during regulation – was two points shy of his career scoring high.
Among Big West players, Fields also ranks fourth with 4.1 assists per game and fifth with 1.8 steals per game.
With the 28-point game, Fields now requires just 121 more points to become the 24th player in program history to reach 1,000.
Fields also was named Big West Conference Player of the Week for the first time.
As a program, Cal Poly (3-5) opens a two-game road trip versus California on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tip time inside Haas Pavilion is 7 p.m. with action televised on Pac-12 Networks.
