Miranda Daschian, Sr., Atascadero, CA | Atascadero HS | Cuesta College
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After scoring a program-high 20 points at the Big West Championships, senior Miranda Daschian of the Mustang track & field team has been selected as the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Daschian won two titles at the Conference Finals at UC Santa Barbara: the 5,000 meters (in 17 minutes, 10.63 seconds) and 10,000m (in 35:14.42). In doing so, she became the first woman throughout the Big West to achieve the 'double' of winning both in seven years.
The conference’s first individual since UC Davis’ Sarah Sumpter (2012) to take home championships for both the 5,000 and 10,000, Daschian is the Big West’s 10th competitor since 1984 to win each within the same meet.
Daschian (Atascadero, Calif./Cuesta College), was voted by the conference directors as Big West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on March 26.
She accounted for 20 of the Mustangs’ 118 points, good for third place, 11.5 back of Cal State Fullerton for the team championship.
