Caroline Cantlay, Sophomore, Los Alamitos, Calif. | Rosary Academy
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Caroline Cantlay, who led the Cal Poly women’s golf team to a first-place finish in the UC Irvine Invitational last week, has been selected as the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
A sophomore from Los Alamitos, Calif., and a graduate of Rosary Academy, Cantlay posted rounds of 68, 70 and 68 for a wire-to-wire victory at the Santa Ana Country Club.
Cantlay’s 10-under-par 206 total lowered the 54-hole school record by six shots and shattered her own three-round personal best by 18 strokes.
In winning by three shots, Cantlay became Cal Poly’s 12th individual winner of a tournament since the inception of the women’s golf program in 2000 and led the team to its 23rd first-place finish in program history.
Cantlay led the field with 15 birdies. In the final round, she posted six birdies and two bogeys for her second round of 68 in the tournament.
Cantlay’s performance helped the team break school records for 18, 36 and 54 holes.
The event was Cal Poly’s last of the fall season. Coach Sofie Aagaard’s Mustangs return to the links Feb. 11-12 in the Battle at The Rock, to be contested at the Oak Quarry Golf Course in Riverside, Calif.
