Zack Allen, Freestyle, Senior, Danville, Calif. | Cate School
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After setting two school records over the weekend at the UNLV Invitational, Cal Poly senior swimmer Zack Allen has been named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Allen, a native of Danville, Calif., set the school record in the finals of the men's 100 freestyle at the UNLV Invitational over the weekend after it had already been set twice during prelims, once by Allen and then broken by fellow senior Dominic Dalpiaz. In the finals, Allen set the record with a time of 43.71, going on to finish with the second-fastest finals time and first in the 'B' final. Prior to Saturday, the previous record was set by current junior Nic Clark last season with a time of 44.54.
In the men's 400 free relay, Allen, along with Dalpiaz, Clark and junior Paul Rogers shattered their own school record time of 2:58.33 they set last season with a time of 2.57.16. That was good for a second-place finish in the event.
Allen’s 100 free time was also a Top-25 best swim in the NCAA this season.
The Cal Poly men’s swimming and diving team finished second at the UNLV Invitational while the women’s team placed sixth.
Allen and the rest of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will next compete Dec. 19 in a double-dual meet against Air Force and San Diego State in San Diego beginning at 10 a.m.
