• Cal Poly Names Sam Crosson as Women’s Volleyball Head Coach

    Sam Crosson, an assistant coach at the University of California the past two seasons, has been selected as head coach of the Cal Poly women’s volleyball program. The announcement was made Friday by Cal Poly director of athletics Don Oberhelman.

    The Mustangs will play their final regular home match of the season when the team faces off against UC Riverside in a Big West Conference match tonight. The Mustangs enter the match with a 10-15 overall record and are 5-7 in conference matches. UC Riverside enters the week with a 6-20 overall record and a 3-9 mark in conference matches and played UC Irvine on Wednesday. Prior to tonight’s match Cal Poly will honor the team’s three seniors: Catie Smith, Sarah Cawrse and Lauren Law.

The Mustangs, playing their fifth match in six days, fall to 4-8 on the year and will return to the court when they host Cal State Bakersfield in the team’s 2011 home opener on Sunday at 7 pm in Mott Gym.

    EUGENE, OR – The 16th – ranked Oregon Ducks proved too much for the Mustangs as the host team won in three sets. Set scores went 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 4-7 overall while the Ducks improve to 7-1. Cal Poly returns to the court on Wednesday when the team travels to the University of San Francisco for a match at 6 pm.
