Mustang Women’s Tennis Set to Open 2018 Season at Cal Winter Invite

SAN LUIS OBISPO— The Cal Poly women's tennis team will make its 2018 season debut this weekend, competing at the Cal Winter Invitational in Berkeley.

The Mustangs will take on Cal, Fresno State and Saint Mary's in what will be the third consecutive year the same four teams will participate in the event.

Cal Poly will begin play on Friday with the tournament going through Sunday. Results will be posted on GoPoly.com at the end of the each day.

The Mustangs return six from last year's team, including three players who earned All-Big West honors in sophomore Susanne Boyden, who was named to the All-Conference Second Team in singles, as she posted a 9-6 record in dual play at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, senior Molly Reed was named honorable mention, as she posted a 9-6 record in dual play while going 5-2 in conference play at the No. 4 spot. Reed ended her junior season winning her last five regular season matches and the doubles tandem of sophomore Seriana Saltzen and Reed earned honorable mention in doubles. The duo held down the No. 1 spot for the Mustangs.

Cal Poly will also look for success from its newcomers in two freshmen, Grace Olyphant and MacKenzie Worsnop and junior Caroline Williams, a transfer from Maryland.

The Mustangs finished 4-15 overall last season and 2-6 in conference, falling to UCSB in the quarterfinals of the Big West Championships.
