Adell, Yoshitake Competing in 112th National Amateur Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly junior-to-be Asia Adell carded a first-round 74 and is tied for 14th place with 16 other golfers in the Women's Western Golf Association's 112th National Amateur Championship on Monday at the Monroe Golf & Country Club in Monroe, Michigan.

Also competing in the week-long event is Taylor Yoshitake, who finished the opening round with a 78 on the 6,142-yard, par-73 course.

Adell (pictured at right) is a graduate of Clovis West High School while Yoshitake attended Saint Monica Catholic High School.

Sixteen-year-old Ariya Jutanugarn from Pasicharoen, Bangkok, Thailand, broke the women's golf course record by shooting a 66. She had nine birdies and two bogeys for a seven-under-par 66.

After the second day of qualifying Tuesday, players will be placed in flights for single-elimination match play starting on Wednesday.  The low 64 players will be placed in the championship flight, which will play through Saturday with a 36-hole final match.  Other flights final matches will be held on Friday afternoon.
