Mustangs Prevail over University of Santa Paula-Goico
COSTA RICA – The Cal Poly women's basketball team picked up its second win on its trip to Costa Rica when they defeated the University of Santa Paula-Goico 108-35.
The Mustangs dominated from the opening tip holding a 26-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cal Poly didn't let up outscoring the host team 23-6 in the second quarter to hold a 49-13 advantage at the break.
In the third a and fourth quarters Cal Poly kept the pressure scoring 59 points over the final two quarters and only allowing 22 points.
Sophomore Jonae Ervin was named the player of the game when she contributed 10 points, seven assists with three rebounds and three steals.
Caroline Reeves, Brittany Woodard and Molly Schlemer each contributed 14 points. Reeves added six rebounds while Schlemer and Woodard had seven and five respevtively.
Kayla Griffin recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds while dishing out four assists.
Other players contributing included Ashlee Burns (10 pts, 4 rebs.), Ariana Elegado (6 pts, 6 assists), Christine Martin (13 pts, 4 rebs.), Ashley Cascio (2 pts, 3 steals), Ariel Gregersen (3 pts, 6 rebs), Amaka Ofodu (7 pts).
