SEATTLE — The Cal Poly women's track & field team produced seven individual top-20 finishes on Saturday to conclude the UW Invitational, highlighting the second day of the Mustangs' first indoor meet of 2017.

To start the morning at Dempsey Indoor, freshman Molly Ross finished 14th overall in a 60-meter hurdles field of 37 women, with a time of 9.12 seconds. She was only two spots (or seven-hundredths of a second) back of Washington sophomore Darhian Mills for the final advancing time.

Soon afterward in the 60-meter dash, senior Mishe' Scott was also only two finishes away from moving on to the next round, placing 18th among 60 sprinters with a performance of 7.84 seconds (just two-hundredths behind Pepperdine senior Gabrielle Ellis).

Also for the Mustangs, seniors Jessica Escalante and Liesl Shirhall were 32nd (at 8.00) and 45th (8.12), and sophomore Jazmin Moreno came in 42nd (8.09) in the 60 meters.

Later on in the 400m, running her first collegiate event, freshman Julianna Ruotolo posted a 19th-place time of 58.42 seconds. Fellow freshman Ashley Heys also made her indoor debut, taking 60th place in the mile, in 5:07.49.

Meanwhile in the field, another freshman earned a top-10 performance. Julie Zweng cleared 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump, good for sixth place out of 36 individuals. She jumped each of her three progressions (beginning at 5' 1" and then 5' 3") on her first try.

In the shot put, junior Kiely Osby finished 11th out of 44 throwers, with a mark of 44 feet, 6 inches on her third attempt. Sophomore teammate Allison Scranton, in her second event in two days, added a 27th-place mark of 41' 6.5" (also on attempt No. 3).

Scott, an All-Big West long jumper at the conference championships in 2015, also competed in that event Saturday, finishing 18th in the field of 50 women with a mark of 17' 4.75" from her second attempt.

Freshman Abi Iriafen also competed at her first meet for the Mustangs, finishing 30th in the long jump (at 16' 9.25" on her initial attempt) and later 16th among 42 triple jumpers (at 36' 3.5" on the second attempt).

In the last event of the evening, the Mustangs took 11th place out of 20 squads in the 4x400m relay, as junior Bailey Sanin, Ruotolo, Ross and senior Mallory Patino combined for a time of 3:56.65.

Also Saturday, Cal Poly alumna and two-time Olympian Sharon Day-Monroe competed in three events. Representing ASICS, Day-Monroe finished third in the 60m hurdles (with a time of 8.63), fifth in the shot put (48' 1.25") and sixth in the long jump (17' 11").

The Mustangs will next return to Washington for the Husky Classic, held Feb. 10-11.
