SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly senior Taylor Guy recorded the best aggregate score among all Mustangs on Friday afternoon during the season-opening Queen of the Pool pentathlon exhibition hosted with Cal on Friday afternoon at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
Guy's combined time of 5:04.68 over the five events equated to a 13th-place finish overall. She placed 10th overall in the 100 fly (57.71) and 13th in the 100 IM (1:00.79). Guy bested her five-category time from a year ago by 4.27.
Cal Poly senior Allison de Peralta – who earned the Queen title last season – finished 16th overall with a five-category total of 5:06.01. De Peralta recorded the 12th-fastest 100 IM time (1:00.74), which was the best among all Mustangs.
Mustang sophomore Sage Speak placed 17th overall among the 48 competitors, with an aggregate time of 5:08.48, besting her total from a year ago at the same event by 14.21.
For the second consecutive year, Golden Bear junior Celina Li captured the overall crown with an aggregate time of 4:47.80. The 2015 World University Games selection (200 IM) outdistanced herself from the field by winning the 100 IM with a time of 57.12.
Cal Poly took 20th-24th places, including sophomore Shaelin Morefield (20th with an overall time of 5:12.25, which was 7.45 faster than her time from a year ago) and freshman Noelle Kipp (21st with a time of 5:12.75) from Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio.
A quartet of Cal Poly freshman finished 27th-30th, which included Elizabeth Peterson (27th, 5:19.61) from Broomfield High in Colorado and Emily Imfeld (28th, 5:21.62) from Sanger High in California.
Mustang junior Dani Orlandi placed 12th in the 100 fly with a time of 58.59, which beat her previous best during the same event last season by nearly a full second (59.44).
