Cleak Takes Fifth in 50 Free to Lead Cal Poly on Day 2 of MPSF Finals
MONTEREY PARK and PASADENA, Calif. — Cal Poly senior Rachel Cleak finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle race on Thursday night at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, highlighting the second day of the four-day finals being held at two sites in southern California.
Cleak (pictured at right) clocked a season-best time of 23.29 seconds — 12-hundredths off the school record — to earn a team-leading 14 points in the overall standings.
Her premier events, the 100 and 200 butterflys, are still coming up over the next two days at East Los Angeles College.
Senior teammate Jill Jones also scored in the 50 free, earning 2.5 points with a 14th-place time of 23.90.
In the 1-meter dive at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena, Mustang senior Sami McIntyre finished 10th, totaling a six-dive score of 235.35 to tally seven points. Fellow senior Meaghan O'Meara was 12th, at 232.15, to chalk up five more points.
Cal Poly also scored in the 200 individual medley, as sophomore Allison de Peralta was 12th (in 2:04.96, for five points) and senior Amanda Maffris was 13th (at 2:05.46, for four).
