Mustangs Open Competition at MPSF Championships with Relays

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Swimming Championships got under way Wednesday night with a pair of relays at East Los Angeles College.

Cal Poly started the evening with a seventh-place finish for 24 points in the 200-yard medley. Sophomores Allison de Peralta and Gabby Lindblad, freshman Dani Orlandi and senior Kelsey Engel combined to clock a time of 1 minute, 44.14 seconds in the race, edging San Diego's squad by a little more than half a second.

Later, sophomore Alisha Bender, Lindblad and seniors Rachel Cleak and Jill Jones swam to an eighth-place time in the 800 free (7:30.62) to earn 22 points.

The conference finals will continue through Saturday night, with swimming still being held in Monterey Park while diving starts Thursday at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena.

(The Cal Poly men's team is off until Feb. 26-March 8, when the Pac-12 Championships will be held at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.)
