No. 12 Pepperdine to Much for No. 52 Mustangs
MALIBU, Calif. – The #12 Pepperdine men's tennis team advanced to tomorrow's championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-0 win over #52 Cal Poly this afternoon. The Mustangs will face either BYU or Vanderbilt in tomorrows consolation match.
Pepperdine improved to 2-0 on the season, while Cal Poly falls to 0-3.
In doubles, the team of Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney disposed of Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee, 8-2 in the top match.
Pepperdine clinched the doubles point when Hugh Clarke and Mousheg Hovhannisyan defeated Sebastian Bell and Jurgen De Jeager with an 8-1 victory on court three.
In singles, Fanselow put the Waves up 2-0 after defeating Brian McPhee, 6-1, 6-1, and Llompart followed suit with a straight set win from the four spot.
On court three, Hovhannisyan defeated Marco Camuzzo, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the dual-deciding fourth point.
Play was suspended on the remaining courts once the match had been decided with Cal Poly's Andre Dome up a set on the first court. In the other unfinished matches, Je Jager, on court five, was also up a set. On the sixth court, Bell won the first set, 6-3, and was in a tiebreaker in the second.
