SAN LUIS OBISPO – For the third time during his Cal Poly career, sophomore midfielder and 2016 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year Christian Enriquez has been invited to the United States U-19 Men's National Team training camp.
One of only seven collegiate players invited to the 22-man camp by U-19 manager Brad Friedel, Enriquez is scheduled to train with the squad from Feb. 3-10 in Sunrise, Fla. During the camp, the U-19 squad will contest friendlies against El Salvador and North American Soccer League club (second-tier) Miami FC.
Previously, Enriquez enjoyed U-19 call-ups in August 2016 (Valencia, Spain) and November 2016 (Sunrise, Fla.).
Just Cal Poly's third Big West Freshman of the Year honoree and first since defender Patrick Sigler in 2008, Enriquez started 16 of 17 games this past year and finished third in the lineup with 18 shot attempts. He scored his first career goal against Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 15) while his first career assist – during a 2-1 regular season finale home victory against Sacramento State – kept Cal Poly in contention for a Big West Tournament position.
