Cal Poly Men's Golf to Face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for Third Place

RESULTS: FIRST ROUND | SECOND ROUND

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. -- After a 3-2 victory over Towson in the opening round, the Cal Poly men's golf team fell 3-2 to Seattle in the semifinals of the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Match Play Challenge on Thursday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for third place Friday at 8:05 a.m. Seattle takes on Fresno State in the championship match Friday at 9:15 a.m.

Grant Martens (pictured at right) was the lone Mustang to win both of his matches Thursday, defeating Trevor Sluman of Towson 2 and 1 and Ian Dahl of Seattle 4 and 3. Sluman is a nephew of PGA Tour golfer Jeff Sluman.

Towson beat South Dakota State 3-2 in the opening round while Seattle blanked South Dakota State 5-0.

Fresno State was a 5-0 winner over Utah State in the first round and beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3.5 to 1.5 in the semifinals.

Towson faces Utah State for fifth place Friday at 8:40 a.m. while South Dakota State meets the Cal Poly "B" team for seventh place at 7:30 a.m.

The Mustang "B" team fell 3.5 to 1.5 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first round and 3.5 to 1.5 to Utah State in the consolation semifinals.
